Why is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Growing in Popularity Amongst Women?

There is a new fitness trend building momentum in America.   That trend is women doing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.    Brazilian Jiu jitsu is a martial art that was developed by the Gracie family and it focuses on getting in close and using grappling techniques such as takedowns and submission holds to subdue one’s opponent.    That doesn’t sound very girly, but women are looking for something new beside the gym training setting.    Learning to protect themselves, staying in shape, and developing social relationships are just a few of the motivations for women who are training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

Bruce Lee Stated That A Kick Is A Kick And A Punch Is A Punch – And He Was Right

Bruce Lee mentioned that punches are punches and kicks are kicks (in his e-book the Tao of JKD). And honestly once I first heard this I did not appreciate what it meant. As a result of it seems to be common sense. Nevertheless it actually is not while you begin learning something. It’s important to go through a lot of issues earlier than you actually be taught what issues are. So you begin out on one side of the circle knowing that punches are punches and a kick is a kick. But, you come out the opposite aspect realizing that a punch is a punch and kick is a kick.

Finding the Best Martial Art For Self Defense

There are so many different martial arts schools and self defense classes in Baltimore area that it can be overwhelming when having to pick one to be apart of. It’s even harder to pick a martial art if it has a similar style that it is competing against.
Judo and Brazilian jiu-jitsu would be an example of two different martial arts
with a similar style. Judo has been around longer and has more history than
Brazilian jiu-jitsu (BJJ). Although Judo has been around longer Brazilian Jiu
Jitsu, BJJ has taken the many techniques from all of the major grappling
styles. Both styles have their advantages and disadvantages when it comes to
deciding which one is better to do for self defense.
